For several years prior to 2005, the Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland, Texas had been feeling God’s call to plant a church. At the same time, a Christian Church organization out of California (Stadia) was feeling God’s call to unite with the Churches of Christ for the historic purposes of working together to plant a church.
At the same time, Tim and Melinda Halstead from The Woodlands, Texas and Ben and Trisha Wall from Tyler, Texas were feeling God’s call to step out of traditional churches and, in faith, become church planters.
Only God could’ve turned what appeared to be four very individual callings into a common effort in the Permian Basin. Only God had the wisdom and the power and the resources to bring these four groups of servants together at this time and in this place to accomplish His purpose.
In summer 2005, the Halsteads and the Walls moved their families to Odessa, Texas to partner with the Golf Course Road Church of Christ and Stadia. They planted a new, grace-filled, second-chance church in Odessa, Texas on September 11, 2005. Since then, there have been inevitable changes in staff; but what has remained is God’s consistent faithfulness. Our youth ministry is currently being led by a team of adult leaders who effectively minister to our teens. We are actively searching and praying for a youth pastor. Daniela Waycaster joined us in 2019 and serves as our Kids Pastor. We added Ty Jones to our team in October 2020 as our Worship Minister, and Derie Tohkubbi works part-time in various areas. With this full complement of staff, and an army of volunteers, it is our goal to reach those in Odessa without a church home- a number which exceeds 50,000 people.
Odessa is home to some of the most friendly, loyal, and hard-working people you ever will meet. Odessa is an oilfield town and much of the DNA of our town is connected to the oil & gas industry. Odessa has a population of 120,000 with an additional 50,000 people who live in Ector County which surrounds Odessa.

Baptism
We believe baptism is how we “go public” for Jesus. The Bible teaches that when you’re ready to accept Jesus’ free gift of grace, you’ll want to change the way you live, ask Him to forgive you of your sins and to become the leader of your life. Your response is celebrated in the act of baptism, which is being immersed in water. This is a symbol of dying to your old way of living and being reborn to a new life, cleansed and pure. Romans 6:1-4; Acts 2:38. If you have questions about baptism please call the church office at 432-272-5556.
Praise & Worship
We want our worship to be a time of praising God. We work hard to create an atmosphere where people feel comfortable to express their heart with freedom. We often clap, raise our hands and, in general, respond in gratitude to God’s mercy, grace and goodness. We just want to love out loud for Jesus! And don't be surprised if you hear a song or two from Christian radio!
Communion
Communion is the time we set aside each Sunday to stop
and reflect on Jesus and the gift He freely gave us when He died on the
cross. That gift is the forgiveness of our sins because of His
sacrifice. Communion is available to all believers who have gathered with
us to honor Jesus. We offer safe, convenient, individually prepared wafers and juice.
Worship
Worship is an attitude of spirit.
Worship should be a response to truth.
Worship is an expression of praise from the depths of our hearts toward a God who is understood through His Word. To truly worship God, we must understand who He is and what He has done, and the only place He has fully revealed Himself is in the Bible.
Since worship isn't about what we do, but how we do it, then we have no rules telling us
whether we should sit, stand, fall down, be quiet, or sing praises loudly while in worship. Those are the things that are decided by the church. The most important thing is that we worship God in spirit (in our hearts) and in truth (in our minds). At New Life, you will find a blend of many types of worship.

Church Plants
When the
church began in Acts 2, it mainly stayed in Jerusalem for several years
growing larger in the temple courts and expanding from house to house.
As the Jewish persecution increased, we find in Acts 7 that many church
members fled Jerusalem and took their churches with them outside of
Judea into Samaria. When the Apostle Paul was converted by Jesus from
being a persecutor of the church to a preacher in Acts 9, he was tasked
with planting churches all over the known world. New Life Church is
committed to continuing to obey Jesus' word like the New Testament
Church of Acts did by planting more and more churches.

Section Title
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22
