Easter Sunday

Apr 5, 2026    Misha Shakurov

This Easter message takes us into the raw, human experience of the disciples in the hours following Jesus' crucifixion. We often celebrate resurrection Sunday with joy and confidence, but this sermon invites us to sit with the confusion, fear, and disappointment that Jesus' followers felt when their theology didn't match their reality. The women went to the tomb with spices, expecting to finish burial preparations. The disciples hid behind locked doors, dismissing the resurrection reports as nonsense. Even Peter, after seeing the empty tomb, walked away simply wondering what had happened. This wasn't a group primed for victory—this was a community in crisis, questioning everything they believed. The transformation that followed wasn't based on wishful thinking or an inspiring pep talk. It was grounded in the historical reality that they saw, touched, and spoke with the risen Christ. This resurrection changed them from fearful doubters into courageous witnesses willing to die for what they knew to be true. For us today, the resurrection isn't just a nice story—it's the event that changes everything about our past, present, and future. Our past can be forgiven, our present has purpose, and our future is secured. When life doesn't make sense and our circumstances don't align with what we believe God should be doing, we're invited to remember that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us.
