Tim and Melinda Halstead met years ago in a Singles group at church, developed a deep friendship, eventually married, and have shared in ministry for 39 years. The ministry-sharing was taken to another level in 2005 when they moved from The Woodlands, Texas to Odessa, Texas to plant New Life Church. Tim and Melinda are partners in ministry, in shepherding, in mentoring and, of course, in parenting. They give God the glory for their children’s journeys of faith and marvel at “how much better they are at this age than we were”. Son, Mitch & his wife Kayla, are in Chattanooga, Tennessee where Mitch is a youth minister and Kayla is a teacher. They are parents of 8-year old Hunter Reid. (Melinda has photos…) Son, Conner, is a youth minister in Conroe, Texas where in spring of 2019 he transitioned from bachelorhood to instant family man when he married Lindsey and her precious children, Elle and Jude. They are now expecting a baby girl to add to the mix. Daughter, Darci Armstrong (married to Brance, who works for Beltway Park Church in Abilene), works for her alma mater, Abilene Christian University, where she is the Associate Director of Enrollment Marketing.
Tim is an extrovert who enjoys people, going to the movies, working out, Mexican food, and long road-trips. He's a news and podcast junkie. Melinda functions as an extrovert and loves people, but is fueled while alone. She loves long morning quiet time and at least two silent/solo retreats per year. She loves relaxing vacations (especially at the beach on "Sistercation"), laughing really hard, reading (or listening to) a good book, and anything involving time with the kids. In the past few years, Tim & Melinda have been called to the ministries of spiritual formation (Tim) and spiritual direction (Melinda) and have individually gone through different 18-month programs for certification in these areas, tools which are helpful in ministering and loving people.
Patrick and Sarah met 8 years ago through a Chemistry class and the rest is history. With 4 kids – Chase (13), Owen (11), Olivia (7), and Graham (5) – a dog named Jordy (named after Jordy Nelson – GO Pack GO!) and a Guniea Pig named Guinea they are a blending family that continues to learn and grow in love for each other and for the Lord.
The kids love soccer, tennis, orchestra, and family pizza night. Sarah is a people person, a certified work out instructor, a huge Green Bay Packers fan, a teacher in our Children’s ministry, and is pursuing a Kinesiology degree. Patrick loves to be with people, but also needs his time alone to process and think. He enjoys coffee, board games, bike riding, and reading. His biggest passions are learning, working with students, and social justice – all of which his colorful past and his current M.Div classes speak into on a daily basis.
Daniela serves as the full-time director of New Life’s Kingdom Kids Club Ministry. She has a passion to reach, teach and release kids to take their rightful place in the Body of Christ. Daniela graduated from UT Permian Basin and received a Bachelor’s in Biology and a teaching certificate in EC-6. Since that time, she has spent several years involved in (and falling in love with) student and kids’ ministry. In July 2019, the Lord presented an opportunity for her to move into that work full-time. As a children’s minister, Daniela leads a team that brings faith alive in creative and energetic ways through experiments, art lessons, technology, puppets, balloons, food and other crazy methods. Daniela enjoys hiking, yoga, taking her dog, Scotty everywhere, rock climbing, dancing, and generally being silly. Her fiancé, Scott enjoys videography, all things tech, traveling and being a behind-the-scenes helper to Daniela in ministry.
Derie serves part time on staff at New Life Church. Derie maintains the website, offers administrative support and offers general support for the church staff and church body. Derie would love to stay home and crochet all day, but she is actively involved with her two boys, Ethan and Hayden and their many activities and tries to keep up with her two grown step-sons, Justin and Jordan.
Don and Derie are growing in their love for the Lord and each other. They are both involved in multiple life groups, bible studies and making Bible reading a favorite past time.
